In the What We Learned section…a $2.6 trillion healthcare
market, language as a barrier to growth, TB Day, and more. India’s healthcare budget is all the talk, much of it
central planning talk. Indonesia has a plan to control prescribing habits...of
its patients. In the MENA region, Jordan’s private hospitals are
challenged on many fronts, and yes, the UAE builds another hospital. Apparently Russia’s aggressive stance on its
pharmaceutical sector has scared off a German generic drug STADA Arzneimittel. In our Miscellaneous Watch we see the world is apparently
ready for mobile health and the power of disruptive innovations.
| | February 2012 | In
the What We Learned section…China’s population is now 51.27% urban,
Capital outflows hit CEE region, Mobile health to be big…in Europe,
Greece, Poland, and more. China’s love affair with pharmaceuticals is still a tender subject for hospital CFOs. In Jordan many want Jordanian hospitals only for Jordanians – Some foreigners need not get sick. The Czech Republic is still trying to determine the optimal number of doctors and nurses. In our Miscellaneous Watch we see GlaxoSmithKline (GSK - LSE) reach down into its strategic bones for new approach – try the less regulated emerging markets for R&D.

In the What We Learned section…Bird flu is back on the scene, and not just in Asia. Life hacking is explained. In Asia Fortis Healthcare (FOHE.NS) and “asset light” are THE action for 2012. Indonesia is the new health worker export leader, by policy. The MENA region also has its challenges with health workers, with many not wanting to work in the private sector. Financial pressures from Latvia in 2008 are now gaining traction in Greece and elsewhere. In Africa our hats go off to Tanzania, the next pharma leader? The Miscellaneous section has the top 10 technologies investors may want to pass, and we’ll add air ambulances to the list. Our annual article list for 2011.
